The University of Liverpool has officially been named the lead institution for the new Centre of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation in Pharmacogenomics (CERSI-PGx). This landmark project, funded by Innovate UK, is part of a national network of seven centres designed to accelerate the delivery of pioneering treatments to patients.

Advancing Personalised Medicine in the UK

Led by Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed, the CERSI-PGx project addresses the critical need for clear regulatory guidelines and implementation pathways for pharmacogenomic testing within the NHS. By focusing on “personalised prescribing,” the centre aims to ensure patients receive the right drugs at the right doses, improving safety and efficacy across the healthcare system.a

A Collaborative Effort

While led by Liverpool, the project brings together a powerful consortium of partners, including Queen Mary University of London, the British Pharmacological Society, and various industry innovators. Together, these stakeholders will develop the educational platforms and economic assessments required to make genomic medicine a standard part of UK clinical practice.
